For as long as I can remember we have always used Paychex.
I do recall switching a few times to mom and pop payroll companies, but we always ended up going back to Paychex.
I have talked to Gusto sales reps and it seems like they have a pretty nice setup.
From the comments, they may be worth checking out again.

We always used state police background checks.
They cost $22 each and if the person has a clean background then it comes back instantly with a certificate. If their background isn’t clean it states that and then all the information pertaining to the background is mail to you.

Good post by Peter Boland about how to get to a $1,000,000 in cleaning contracts in less than 12 months.
Here are the takeaways:
Decide and Commit. The first step in achieving anything is actually deciding. The next step is committing to that decision.
Do the math. Once you decide on a goal(number), doing the math and breaking it down by the month makes it seem more possible to achieve.
Perfecting your sales pitch. Peter’s way of reaching new clients is cold calling. This is how I go about finding most of my leads as well. Here’s a cold calling script if that’s the route you want to take.
Master your process then rinse and repeat. Once you’ve mastered your process to find new leads and close on those leads, you can pass that process on to sales reps to do it for you.
